edaravone

Edaravone is a small molecule free radical scavenger developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma. It acts as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals and reducing oxidative stress—a process implicated in neuronal damage in conditions such as acute ischemic stroke and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Edaravone provides neuroprotective effects by limiting neuronal injury following ischemia or reperfusion and has been shown to slow the progression of functional decline in ALS. It was first approved in Japan for acute ischemic stroke in 2001 and later for ALS; it received FDA approval for ALS treatment under the brand name Radicava. The drug is available as an intravenous injection and, more recently, as an oral suspension[1][2][3][4][5][8].
