Overview

EDI-M410 is a preclinical-stage small molecule macrocyclic anionophore being developed by the Empire Discovery Institute. It is designed to facilitate the transport of chloride and bicarbonate ions across cell membranes, effectively acting as a synthetic ion channel. This mechanism is intended to bypass or supplement defective cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) proteins in patients with cystic fibrosis, potentially restoring fluid and electrolyte balance in the lungs regardless of the specific CFTR mutation. Additionally, the compound is being explored for the treatment of chronic cough.
