Overview

EDIT-201 is an experimental, allogeneic, CRISPR-edited natural killer (NK) cell therapy developed by Editas Medicine for the treatment of solid tumors. The therapy utilizes the company's proprietary SLEEK (Selection by Licensed Effector Cell Knock-out) gene-editing technology and the AsCas12a (Cpf1) nuclease to perform high-efficiency multi-gene editing. Specifically, EDIT-201 is designed to enhance the effector function, persistence, and metabolic fitness of NK cells within the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment by knocking out specific inhibitory genes. In January 2023, Editas Medicine announced a strategic reprioritization to focus on its lead clinical program (EDIT-301) and in vivo CRISPR medicines, leading to the discontinuation of internal development for its NK cell programs, including EDIT-201.
