Overview

EDL6D is a novel synthetic peptide drug candidate developed to mimic the function of Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG), a plasma glycoprotein produced by the liver that binds sex steroids. The primary therapeutic aim of EDL6D is to restore SHBG activity, which is diminished in conditions such as obesity, fatty liver disease (NAFLD/NASH), type 2 diabetes, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). By mimicking SHBG, EDL6D targets multiple pathological processes involved in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and fatty liver disease—including steatosis, fibrosis, and inflammation—offering a multi-faceted approach to treatment. Preclinical studies in animal models have demonstrated that EDL6D can reverse fatty liver changes and protect against disease progression. The drug is being developed for oral administration with an initial focus on NASH but may also be applicable to other metabolic diseases where SHBG levels are reduced[1][2][5][8].
