Overview

Edoxaban is an oral anticoagulant belonging to the class of direct factor Xa inhibitors. It is used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, as well as for the treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) after initial therapy with a parenteral anticoagulant. Edoxaban works by selectively inhibiting factor Xa, a key enzyme in the coagulation cascade, thereby decreasing blood clot formation. The drug was developed by Daiichi Sankyo[3][6].
