Overview

EDP-239 is a potent, selective small molecule inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A), developed for the treatment of HCV infection. NS5A is an essential viral protein required for HCV replication. EDP-239 has demonstrated strong antiviral activity against multiple major HCV genotypes in preclinical and clinical studies, including activity against variants resistant to other direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) and host-targeted antivirals (HTAs). In phase 1 clinical trials, EDP-239 showed significant reductions in HCV RNA levels after single-dose administration and exhibited favorable pharmacokinetic properties supporting once-daily dosing. The drug was initially developed by Enanta Pharmaceuticals, with Novartis also involved at one stage; Enanta later regained full rights to the compound[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
