Overview

EDP-494 is a small molecule cyclophilin inhibitor developed by Enanta Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It targets the human host protein cyclophilin A, which is essential for HCV replication, representing a novel host-targeted antiviral approach. Unlike direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), cyclophilin inhibitors like EDP-494 retain potency against DAA resistance-associated variants and are being investigated as potential combination partners to address hard-to-treat or resistant HCV cases. The drug has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials involving healthy volunteers and patients with genotype 1 or genotype 3 chronic HCV infection, administered orally once daily[1][2][4][5].
