Overview

EDP1867 is an investigational **oral microbial therapy** from **Evelo Biosciences** for inflammatory disease, principally **atopic dermatitis**. Public sources describe it as an **orally administered pharmaceutical preparation of a single strain of bacteria**, formulated as capsules and developed within Evelo's small-intestinal-axis microbiome platform. In a completed first-in-human **Phase 1a/1b** study in healthy volunteers and patients with moderate atopic dermatitis, with optional psoriasis and mild asthma cohorts, EDP1867 was reported to be **safe and well tolerated** across tested doses; however, Evelo later stated there was **no clear evidence of clinical benefit** in the small analyzable atopic dermatitis subset and the program was **put on hold**. Preclinical material cited anti-inflammatory activity in a **Th2-driven atopic dermatitis mouse model**, but the precise molecular target and human mechanism remain publicly undisclosed.
