Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EDP2939 is an orally delivered, investigational extracellular vesicle (EV) candidate that was developed by Evelo Biosciences. [2] It is manufactured from a single strain of the bacterium *Prevotella histicola*. [5, 8] The drug is designed to act on the small intestinal axis (SINTAX) to resolve inflammation. [2, 3] Its proposed mechanism involves acting in the small intestine to induce systemic regulatory T cells, which then modulate inflammation throughout the body. [5] EDP2939 was being evaluated for the treatment of moderate psoriasis. [2, 3] In October 2023, Evelo Biosciences announced that the Phase 2 clinical study of EDP2939 in moderate psoriasis did not meet its primary endpoint. [1, 3] Consequently, the company ceased the development of EDP2939 and initiated a process to explore strategic alternatives. [1, 4]
