EDX110 is an investigational topical nitric oxide-generating gel system designed for the treatment of chronic wounds, particularly diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). Developed by Edixomed, the therapy utilizes a two-component system—typically comprising a nitrite-containing gel and an acidic activator gel—that are mixed at the point of application to trigger the localized release of nitric oxide (NO) gas. Nitric oxide acts as a potent vasodilator by activating soluble guanylate cyclase, which improves microcirculation and increases local tissue oxygen saturation (StO2) in the wound bed. Beyond its hemodynamic effects, the high concentrations of NO produced by EDX110 exert broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and promote various stages of wound healing, including fibroblast proliferation and collagen synthesis. Clinical evaluation, including observational studies (NO-DFS) led by Prof. Dr. Tienush Rassaf at Universitätsklinikum Essen, has demonstrated the gel's efficacy in enhancing tissue oxygenation in patients with diabetic foot syndrome.
