EEDVsMit is an investigational targeted nanocell therapy developed by EnGeneIC, specifically being evaluated in pediatric oncology by Dr. David Ziegler. It consists of EnGeneIC Dream Vectors (EDVs)—non-living, bacterially derived nanocells—that are functionalized with bispecific antibodies to target the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR). The nanocells are loaded with the cytotoxic chemotherapy agent mitoxantrone. Upon intravenous administration, the EEDVs bind to EGFR-expressing tumor cells, which are common in pediatric solid tumors and central nervous system (CNS) malignancies like diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). The nanocells are internalized via endocytosis, allowing for the intracellular release of mitoxantrone, which then exerts its anti-tumor effect by inhibiting DNA topoisomerase II and causing DNA damage. This delivery mechanism is designed to enhance therapeutic efficacy while reducing the systemic side effects typically associated with conventional chemotherapy.
