Overview

EF-022 is an investigational immunotherapy developed by Efranat Ltd. for the treatment of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP). It is a proprietary, purified form of Gc protein-derived macrophage activating factor (GcMAF), a naturally occurring glycoprotein derived from the Vitamin D-binding protein (Gc protein) through sequential deglycosylation. EF-022 acts as a potent immunostimulant that specifically activates macrophages, enhancing their phagocytic activity and antigen-presenting capabilities. In patients with RRP, which is caused by chronic infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11, EF-022 is intended to stimulate the innate immune system to recognize and eliminate HPV-infected cells and the resulting laryngeal papillomas, potentially reducing the frequency of surgical interventions.
