Overview

**efavirenz + lamivudine + stavudine** is a combination antiretroviral regimen used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It combines three agents with distinct mechanisms of action: efavirenz, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI); lamivudine, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI); and stavudine, also an NRTI. This regimen is particularly notable for use as a first-line therapy in resource-limited settings. Efavirenz inhibits HIV-1 reverse transcriptase by binding to an allosteric site, leading to disruption of enzyme activity. Both lamivudine and stavudine are incorporated into viral DNA by reverse transcriptase, resulting in chain termination and inhibition of viral replication[3][1].
