Overview

efavirenz + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate + lamivudine (Yu-Jay Corp.) is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) antiretroviral therapy developed for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. This specific formulation utilizes a reduced dose of efavirenz (400 mg) alongside standard doses of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300 mg) and lamivudine (300 mg). Efavirenz acts as a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), while tenofovir and lamivudine function as nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). The use of a 400 mg efavirenz dose, as opposed to the traditional 600 mg dose, is intended to maintain viral suppression while potentially reducing dose-related adverse effects, such as central nervous system toxicity. Yu-Jay Corp. is evaluating this combination in Phase 3 clinical trials as a maintenance therapy for patients who are already virally suppressed on other regimens.
