Overview

Efavirenz nanoparticles are a nanoformulation of the conventional HIV drug efavirenz, designed to enhance its solubility, bioavailability, and therapeutic efficacy. This formulation addresses the poor water solubility (10 μg/ml) and limited bioavailability (40-45%) of conventional efavirenz, which currently requires high doses (600-800 mg/day). By reducing particle size to the nanometer range (typically 99-200 nm), these formulations achieve significantly improved drug release profiles (95-100% within 1 hour compared to 23-58% of pure drug) and better cellular uptake.
