Overview

Efdamrofusp alfa is a recombinant, fully human bispecific fusion protein that acts as both an angiogenesis inhibitor and a complement activation inhibitor. It is designed to neutralize vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) isoforms and the complement components C3b/C4b, thereby inhibiting VEGF-mediated angiogenesis and complement activation. The drug is being developed primarily for ophthalmic indications such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), with additional research in diabetic macular edema and other complement-related ocular conditions. Efdamrofusp alfa has demonstrated noninferiority to aflibercept in improving best-corrected visual acuity in nAMD patients, with a similar safety profile[1][2][3][5][6].
