Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EFEMP1-neutralizing antibody is a therapeutic monoclonal antibody designed to target and inhibit EGF-containing fibulin-like extracellular matrix protein 1 (EFEMP1, also known as fibulin-3). EFEMP1 is an extracellular matrix glycoprotein implicated in cartilage development and osteoarthritis (OA) pathogenesis, where its expression inhibits chondrogenesis and promotes chondrocyte hypertrophy. By neutralizing EFEMP1, the antibody promotes chondrogenesis, suppresses chondrocyte hypertrophy, and modulates inflammatory signaling, thereby preserving cartilage integrity and attenuating OA progression. Preclinical studies in spontaneous osteoarthritis mouse models have demonstrated that treatment with EFEMP1-neutralizing antibodies increases matrix-producing chondrocytes, improves cartilage integrity, and lowers OARSI scores.
