Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EFF1009 is a medical food emulsion developed by Efficas for the dietary management of asthma. It consists of a specific combination of the omega-6 fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and the omega-3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The product is designed to modulate the inflammatory response in asthmatic patients by inhibiting the synthesis of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes, specifically leukotriene B4 (LTB4). Clinical studies have demonstrated that EFF1009 can improve asthma-related quality of life (ARQOL) and reduce asthma symptoms when used as an adjunct to standard asthma medications. It acts by providing alternative fatty acid substrates that compete with arachidonic acid in the 5-lipoxygenase pathway.
