Effective-Component Compatibility of Bufei Yishen Formula III (ECC-BYF III) is a specific formulation derived from the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Bufei Yishen Formula. It is composed of five active ingredients: 20-S-ginsenoside Rh1, astragaloside IV, nobiletin, icariin, and paeonol. Preclinical studies suggest that ECC-BYF III has therapeutic potential in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and associated conditions like mucus hypersecretion. Its proposed mechanisms of action include inhibiting mucus hypersecretion by regulating the EGFR/MEK/ERK pathway and miR-146a-5p, modulating COPD-related pathways and hub genes (such as Il1b, Ccl2, Cxcl1, Apoe, Ccl7, Ccl12, and Ccl4), activating the Pkm2/Nrf2 signaling pathway to restore mitochondrial oxidative stress, and improving mitochondrial dysfunction by inhibiting the JNK/Sab pathway.
