Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Effiprev is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) marketed by Effik Italia. It is a fixed-dose combination of the synthetic progestin dienogest (2 mg) and the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol (0.03 mg). Effiprev is primarily indicated for oral contraception and for the treatment of moderate acne in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive after the failure of suitable topical therapies or oral antibiotics. Dienogest acts as an agonist of the progesterone receptor and exhibits antiandrogenic activity by antagonizing the androgen receptor, which helps improve acne. Ethinylestradiol acts as an agonist of the estrogen receptor, stabilizing the uterine lining and working synergistically with dienogest to suppress the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), thereby preventing ovulation.
