Overview

Efinaconazole is a triazole antifungal medication indicated for the topical treatment of onychomycosis (fungal infection of the toenails), primarily caused by *Trichophyton rubrum* and *Trichophyton mentagrophytes*. It acts by inhibiting lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, an enzyme involved in ergosterol biosynthesis, which is essential for maintaining fungal cell membrane integrity. Efinaconazole was first approved in 2014 and is marketed under the brand name Jublia. The drug is applied as a 10% topical solution and has demonstrated efficacy in clinical trials for achieving complete or almost complete cure rates in patients with toenail onychomycosis[3][4][5][6][8].
