efloxate

Efloxate is a flavone derivative that functions as a coronary vasodilator. Historically, it was developed and marketed under the brand name Recordil for the management of angina pectoris, where it was used to improve blood flow to the heart muscle. While its clinical use in cardiology has largely been superseded by newer therapeutic classes, recent drug repurposing research has identified efloxate as a potential inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 viral entry and a candidate inhibitor of *Staphylococcus aureus* sortase A (SrtA). SrtA is an enzyme critical for bacterial pathogenesis as it anchors surface-exposed proteins to the cell wall peptidoglycan, making efloxate an attractive lead for anti-virulence strategies against resistant Gram-positive bacteria.
