Overview

Efmedaglutide alfa (also known as TJ103 or TG103) is a long-acting recombinant human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) Fc-fusion protein developed for once-weekly subcutaneous administration. It consists of a GLP-1 analogue fused to a hybrid Fc fragment (hyFc) of human immunoglobulin delta/gamma 4, which significantly extends its half-life and improves tolerability. Efmedaglutide alfa acts as a selective GLP-1 receptor agonist, promoting glucose-dependent insulin secretion, inhibiting glucagon release, and suppressing appetite to regulate blood glucose and support weight management. Originally developed by Genexine using its proprietary hyFc platform, the drug was licensed to I-Mab Biopharma (now TJ Biopharma) and subsequently sub-licensed to CSPC Pharmaceutical Group for exclusive development and commercialization in Mainland China. Biologics License Applications (BLAs) for efmedaglutide alfa have been accepted by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for the long-term management of overweight or obese adults and for glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
