efpeglenatide + weekly insulin analog

Efpeglenatide + weekly insulin analog is a combination regimen for type 2 diabetes in which efpeglenatide, a long-acting glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist based on an exendin-4 analog fused to an IgG4 Fc fragment for prolonged half-life, is co-administered with a once-weekly basal insulin analog to improve glycemic control and promote weight loss. Efpeglenatide enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon, delays gastric emptying, and reduces appetite, thereby complementing the glucose-lowering and fasting glycemia-stabilizing effects of long-acting basal insulin therapy in patients inadequately controlled on oral agents and/or insulin. This combination is being investigated as part of development programs led by Hanmi Pharmaceutical and Sanofi to reduce injection burden and optimize glucose and weight outcomes in type 2 diabetes.
