Overview

Efralex is a preclinical-stage small molecule developed by Neela Therapeutics that functions as an ephrin mimetic targeting the EphA4 receptor. EphA4 is a member of the erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular (Eph) receptor tyrosine kinase family, which is involved in regulating axonal guidance, synaptic plasticity, and neuronal connectivity. In neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), EphA4 signaling is often dysregulated, leading to synaptic loss and neurodegeneration. Efralex is designed to mimic the natural ephrin ligands that bind to EphA4, thereby modulating the receptor's signaling pathways to promote neuroprotection and restore synaptic health. The therapeutic is currently being evaluated in preclinical models for its potential to slow disease progression and improve cognitive or motor function in these disorders.
