Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Eftansomatropin alfa is a next-generation long-acting recombinant human growth hormone (somatropin) fusion protein engineered using Genexine’s hyFc technology, which fuses human growth hormone to a hybrid Fc fragment derived from human immunoglobulin D and G to extend half-life and enable once-weekly or less frequent dosing.[2][3][13][17] As a **somatotropin receptor agonist**, it binds to and activates the growth hormone receptor to stimulate hepatic and peripheral production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), driving osteoblast and chondrocyte activity and promoting linear bone growth and other anabolic effects characteristic of endogenous growth hormone.[3][13][17] Discovered by Genexine and co-developed with Handok, with regional partners including I-Mab/TJ Biopharma and Jumpcan in China, it is being developed primarily for pediatric and adult growth hormone deficiency, where Phase 3 trials in pediatric growth hormone deficiency have demonstrated non-inferiority to daily Norditropin in annualized height velocity with a favorable tolerability profile, supporting regulatory filings in China and ongoing development globally.[3][7][10][13]
