Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EG-1961 is an investigational, extended-release intracranial formulation of nimodipine being developed to improve outcomes after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage by providing sustained local cerebrospinal fluid exposure while minimizing systemic toxicity. Designed for placement into the basal cisterns during neurosurgical or endovascular treatment, EG-1961 aims to prevent or reduce cerebral vasospasm and delayed cerebral ischemia through continuous calcium channel blockade of cerebral arteries. The product was developed by Edge Therapeutics (later PDS Biotechnology) as a biodegradable polymer-based nimodipine delivery system to overcome adherence and pharmacokinetic limitations of oral nimodipine therapy in this acute neurocritical care setting.
