EG-301

EG-301 is an orally administered small molecule drug developed by Evergreen Therapeutics (also known as Shenzhen Eglin Pharmaceutical) for the treatment of dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD), including non-exudative geographic atrophy. It is a new molecular entity and represents one of the first oral therapies in clinical development for this indication, where there are currently no approved drugs. The mechanism of action has not been fully defined; however, preclinical and early clinical data suggest that EG-301 may enhance anti-inflammatory and antioxidant functions in retinal pigment epithelial cells, improve autophagosome transport, inhibit complement activation in epithelial cells, and protect mitochondria. These effects are believed to contribute to its potential efficacy in slowing or preventing progression of dry AMD[1][3][6]. The drug has demonstrated safety in human studies and efficacy in animal models.
