EG-COVARo is an mRNA-based vaccine candidate developed by EyeGene for the prevention of COVID-19. Unlike first-generation mRNA vaccines that utilize lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for delivery, EG-COVARo employs a cationic liposome-based delivery system. The vaccine is produced as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) formulation, which allows for stable storage and transport at standard refrigerated temperatures (2–8 ℃), potentially overcoming the ultra-cold chain logistics challenges associated with other mRNA vaccines. EG-COVARo contains mRNA encoding the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein; once administered, it prompts host cells to synthesize the antigen, thereby stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies and activating immune cells. It has been evaluated in clinical trials as both a primary series and a booster dose.
