Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EG-COVII is a bivalent mRNA-based vaccine developed by EyeGene for the prevention of COVID-19. It is designed to provide protection against both the ancestral (wild-type) SARS-CoV-2 strain and the Omicron variant. Distinguishing itself from first-generation mRNA vaccines that utilize lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery, EG-COVII employs a proprietary cationic liposome-based delivery system. This platform enables the vaccine to be produced as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) product, allowing for stable storage and transport at 2-8°C, which significantly reduces the logistical challenges associated with ultra-cold chain requirements. The vaccine has been investigated in a Phase I/IIa clinical trial (NCT06099613) to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adult volunteers.
