Overview

EG-HZ is a non-live, recombinant subunit vaccine being developed by EyeGene for the prevention of herpes zoster (shingles) caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). The vaccine formulation consists of a recombinant varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein E (VZVgE) antigen combined with EyeGene's proprietary CIA09 adjuvant system, which is designed to enhance the immune response. EG-HZ is intended to provide a safer and potentially more effective alternative to existing shingles vaccines by eliciting a robust immune response in older adults. A Phase 1 clinical trial has been completed in healthy adults aged 50 to 70 years, evaluating the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of the vaccine compared to the active control Shingrix.
