EGb 761

EGb 761 is a standardized, proprietary extract of the leaves of the Ginkgo biloba tree. It is one of the most extensively studied herbal extracts and contains a defined composition of active constituents, including approximately 24% ginkgoflavone glycosides and 6% terpene trilactones (notably ginkgolides A, B, and bilobalide), with less than 5 ppm ginkgolic acids. The extract exhibits antioxidant properties and neuroprotective effects by scavenging free radicals, modulating neurotransmitter systems (including dopamine), improving microcirculation through vasoregulatory actions, inhibiting platelet activating factor (PAF), and reducing neuronal damage from beta amyloid toxicity. Clinically, EGb 761 has been shown to be effective in symptomatic treatment of cognitive impairment and dementia (including Alzheimer's disease), tinnitus, vertigo, anxiety disorders, premenstrual syndrome symptoms such as breast tenderness, and possibly post-COVID cognitive deficits. Its efficacy in dementia has been demonstrated in multiple randomized controlled trials using validated cognitive scales[1][3][4][5][7][9][10].
