Overview

EGFR shRNA is a research-stage RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic candidate designed to silence the expression of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). By utilizing short hairpin RNA (shRNA) sequences, this biologic targets EGFR mRNA for degradation, thereby reducing the levels of EGFR protein on the cell surface and inhibiting downstream oncogenic signaling pathways such as PI3K/Akt and MAPK. In preclinical studies, EGFR shRNA has been investigated for its potential to inhibit tumor growth, invasion, and the Warburg effect in various malignancies, including glioblastoma multiforme and ovarian cancer. It is often delivered via viral vectors or nanoparticles in laboratory settings and is frequently used as a tool to study the role of EGFR in cancer progression.
