Egg yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) is a polyclonal antibody biologic derived from the eggs of hens immunized against *Helicobacter pylori*. It is utilized as an oral passive immunotherapy to treat *H. pylori* infections, particularly as an adjuvant in rescue therapy for patients who have failed standard antibiotic treatments. The mechanism involves the specific binding of IgY to *H. pylori* cell surface components, which inhibits bacterial colonization and adhesion to the gastric mucosa, thereby facilitating the clearance of the pathogen. Research conducted at The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University has demonstrated that when combined with bismuth-based quadruple therapy, IgY can improve symptomatic relief and reduce the incidence of adverse reactions compared to standard therapy alone. It is often categorized as a nutraceutical or nutritional supplement but is evaluated in clinical settings for its therapeutic efficacy in gastrointestinal disease management.
