Eggshell-derived calcium hydroxyapatite is an experimental dental biomaterial developed by the University of Health Sciences Lahore. It is synthesized from chicken eggshells through a process of heating and chemical treatment to create a biocompatible calcium phosphate ceramic. The material is primarily used as an indirect pulp capping agent in the treatment of deep dental caries in permanent molars. Its mechanism of action involves the release of calcium ions and its inherent biocompatibility, which promotes the formation of a reparative dentin bridge, thereby preserving pulp vitality and preventing the need for more invasive endodontic procedures.
