Overview

EGT710 (also known as NVP-EGT710) is an oral, small molecule, non-peptidomimetic reversible covalent inhibitor of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro/3CLpro/nsp5), developed by Novartis. Discovered through structure-based drug design and virtual screening, EGT710 is designed to treat COVID-19 without the need for pharmacokinetic boosting (e.g., ritonavir). Preclinical data showed potent cellular activity against SARS-CoV-2 and efficacy in reducing lung viral loads in animal models. The drug has completed Phase I clinical trials in healthy adults to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics.
