This is a combination therapy consisting of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 fatty acid, and etretinate, a synthetic aromatic retinoid. The combination has been studied primarily for the treatment of chronic, stable psoriasis vulgaris. Clinical studies have shown that adding EPA to low-dose etretinate results in better and more rapid improvement in psoriasis symptoms compared to etretinate alone, with mild or tolerable adverse reactions. Eicosapentaenoic acid is thought to reduce inflammation and modulate immune responses by altering lipid mediators, while etretinate acts mainly by binding to retinoic acid receptors and interfering with keratinocyte differentiation[1][3][4]. This combination is not widely employed but has demonstrated efficacy in clinical trials.
