This is a combination therapy consisting of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, and fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. EPA is thought to exert neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects in the brain, while fluoxetine increases synaptic serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake. Clinical studies have shown that both agents individually are effective in reducing depressive symptoms in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, their combination has demonstrated superior efficacy compared to either agent alone for the treatment of MDD.
