Drug intelligence / Profile preview
eicosapentaenoic acid + L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate is a combination dietary supplement known under the brand name CreNeuroS. It combines eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, with L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF), the biologically active form of folate. EPA acts as a ligand for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), particularly PPAR-alpha, which mediates triglyceride reduction and exerts anti-inflammatory effects. L-5-MTHF serves as a critical methyl donor in the one-carbon metabolism cycle, bypassing the MTHFR enzyme to support the conversion of homocysteine to methionine and the synthesis of monoamine neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. The combination is primarily developed as a nutraceutical to support cardiovascular and neurological health, and has been evaluated in pharmacokinetic trials to assess the bioavailability of its components.
