Eicosapentaenoic acid + rosuvastatin is a fixed-dose combination therapy under development for the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk reduction. The combination includes ethyl eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 fatty acid that reduces triglyceride levels, and rosuvastatin, a statin that inhibits HMG-CoA reductase to lower cholesterol synthesis. EPA acts by reducing hepatic very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) triglyceride synthesis and secretion, while also exerting anti-inflammatory effects. Rosuvastatin competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, leading to decreased cholesterol production and increased clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from the bloodstream. Clinical studies have shown that this combination can significantly stabilize non-obstructive neoatherosclerotic plaques compared to standard-dose statin monotherapy[2][3][5]. The product is being developed by Amarin.
