Eicosapentaenoyl-phosphatidylethanolamine (EPA-PE) is a phospholipid form of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, in which EPA is esterified at the sn-2 position of phosphatidylethanolamine. EPA-PE occurs naturally in marine organisms but is also a subject of research as a dietary supplement or nutraceutical. As a **carrier form of EPA**, EPA-PE may have distinct absorption, tissue distribution, and biological effects compared to EPA in triglyceride or ethyl ester forms. EPA itself exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, and lipid-lowering effects, which are mediated by influences on membrane phospholipids, eicosanoid production, and gene regulation. Preclinical studies indicate EPA-PE might possess unique bioactive properties, but it is not currently an approved pharmaceutical drug in major regulatory jurisdictions.[3][4][6]
