Overview
Eight Treg is an autologous cell therapy consisting of ex vivo expanded regulatory CD8+ T cells (CD8+ Tregs). Developed by the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nantes (CHU de Nantes), it is being investigated for use in living donor kidney transplantation to induce immune tolerance and reduce the need for standard immunosuppression. The therapy involves isolating CD8+ T cells from the patient, expanding them ex vivo to enhance their regulatory properties, and re-infusing them into the patient. The primary goal is to prevent graft rejection by modulating the recipient's immune response toward the donor organ, potentially allowing for a reduction in conventional immunosuppressive drug regimens.
