Overview

EIM-001 is an investigational topical formulation of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT/A) developed by Eirion Therapeutics. It utilizes a proprietary nano-emulsion delivery technology designed to transport the large botulinum toxin protein across the stratum corneum without the need for injections. The drug's mechanism of action involves the enzymatic cleavage of synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25), a critical component of the SNARE complex required for vesicle fusion. By cleaving SNAP-25, EIM-001 inhibits the release of acetylcholine from presynaptic nerve terminals. In the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis, this blockade prevents the stimulation of eccrine sweat glands, thereby reducing excessive sweating. The product is also being evaluated for aesthetic indications, such as the reduction of lateral canthal lines, where it acts by inhibiting muscle contractions.
