eIMPACT

eIMPACT (enhanced Improving Mood-Promoting Access to Collaborative Treatment) is a modernized collaborative care intervention developed by Indiana University researchers. It is designed to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) and reduce the risk of future cardiovascular disease (CVD) in primary care patients aged 50 and older who possess CVD risk factors but have no history of clinical CVD. The eIMPACT program utilizes a stepped-care approach that combines pharmacotherapy with behavioral interventions. The pharmacological component involves the use of cardiovascular-safe antidepressants, specifically selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as sertraline, escitalopram, paroxetine, fluoxetine, and citalopram, as well as duloxetine, bupropion, and mirtazapine. These are integrated with computerized cognitive-behavioral therapy (Beating the Blues) and telephonic problem-solving treatment (PST-PC). The intervention aims to improve arterial function and reduce the excess CVD risk associated with late-life depression.
