EK-002 is a chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), currently under development by Shanghai Enkai Cell Technology (also known as Shanghai NK Cell Technology). The therapy is designed for the treatment of multiple myeloma, a hematologic malignancy characterized by the proliferation of malignant plasma cells. EK-002 functions by engineering a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically binds to BCMA, which is highly and selectively expressed on the surface of myeloma cells. Upon binding, the CAR-T cells are activated to induce targeted cytotoxicity against the cancerous cells. As of 2022, the program is in Phase 1 clinical trials.
