EKC-Cide is a nanoviricide drug candidate being developed by NanoViricides, Inc. for the treatment of epidemic kerato-conjunctivitis (EKC), a severe and highly contagious ocular infection caused by human adenoviruses. The drug is based on a proprietary nanomedicine platform that utilizes polymeric micelles (nanoviricides) designed to mimic the host cell surface receptors that viruses use for attachment. By presenting a high density of these decoy ligands, EKC-Cide binds to and neutralizes viral particles, effectively preventing them from infecting ocular tissues. It has shown efficacy in confirmatory animal models and aims to address a significant unmet medical need, as there are currently no approved antiviral treatments for EKC.
