Overview

Eladur is an investigational transdermal patch formulation of the long‑acting local anesthetic bupivacaine, designed using Durect’s TRANSDUR technology to deliver continuous topical bupivacaine for up to three days from a single application for the treatment of neuropathic and other chronic pain conditions.[1][3][7][11] Bupivacaine blocks voltage‑gated sodium channels in peripheral nerves, stabilizing neuronal membranes and inhibiting initiation and conduction of nerve impulses to produce local analgesia, with Eladur intended to provide sustained local drug levels while minimizing systemic exposure.[1][3][7] Developed originally by Durect and out‑licensed to partners including Alpharma/King/Pfizer and later Impax, the program has been evaluated in Phase II studies for post‑herpetic neuralgia and chronic low back pain but has not been approved for marketing.[1][5][9][11][13]
