Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ELAPR002d is an investigational, tropoelastin-based intradermal implant formulation developed by Elastagen (later acquired by Allergan, now AbbVie). It belongs to the ELAPR002 family of cross-linked tropoelastin matrix formulations, which are injectable dermal implants designed to treat signs of skin aging, including moderate to severe nasolabial fold rhytides (wrinkles/folds). The active ingredient is tropoelastin — the soluble monomer precursor of elastin, a structural protein naturally found in human skin — which, upon injection, is intended to integrate into the skin's extracellular matrix and form elastin, thereby restoring skin elasticity and reducing wrinkles. ELAPR002d was evaluated in a completed randomized split-face Phase 1/2 clinical trial in healthy adult volunteers with moderate to severe nasolabial folds, where it was compared head-to-head against Juvederm Ultra Plus (an active hyaluronic acid filler control), with optional repeat treatments and upper-arm implant biopsies for persistence and histopathology assessment.
