ELAPR002g is a specific formulation of a cross-linked recombinant human tropoelastin (rhTE) matrix developed for the treatment of skin conditions involving elastin deficiency. Originally developed by the Australian biotechnology company Elastagen, the program was acquired by Allergan (now a subsidiary of AbbVie) in 2018. The product is designed as an intradermal implant to treat striae distensae (stretch marks) and atrophic acne scars. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that primarily provide temporary volume, ELAPR002g is intended to integrate into the dermal tissue and promote the restoration of the skin's natural elastic fiber network by providing a scaffold of tropoelastin, the soluble precursor to elastin.
