Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**mRNA-1273.214** is Moderna's bivalent COVID-19 mRNA vaccine marketed as **Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron BA.1**. It contains two nucleoside-modified mRNA active ingredients, elasomeran and imelasomeran, formulated in lipid nanoparticles. Elasomeran encodes the prefusion-stabilized spike protein of ancestral SARS-CoV-2, while imelasomeran encodes the Omicron BA.1 spike protein. Following intramuscular administration, host cells transiently express these antigens, eliciting neutralizing-antibody and cellular immune responses intended to prevent COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2. The vaccine was developed and manufactured by Moderna and was authorized in multiple jurisdictions, including Canada and the European Union, for primary-series and booster use in eligible populations.
